It’s looking to wow users with a slick dark mode; striking updates to apps like Apple Maps, Photos, and even Reminders and long-overdue additions like a swiping keyboard and UI improvements. Many of these questions will be answered as well as ten new features you can look out for in this new iteration of ios. Dark mode has been long overdue and is finally here in ios. This gives ios a dark color scheme which is perfect for night time adventures or just laying in bed catching up on some reading. Dark Mode is easier on your eyes and can be activated manually with a simple click in your control center. If you don’t want to manually turn it on everyday you can also have Dark Mode turn on and off at a certain time or based on sunrise and sunset. There will be wallpapers that will adapt depending on what mode you are in.

Photos tab has gotten a major overhaul which will make it easier to find and relive your favorite photos and videos. You will be able to search for specific people with the help of ios intelligent face recognition or by dates, places and events attended. Auto playing live photos allows you to view muted live photos and videos in your gallery as you scroll past bringing your photo library to life. The photo and video editing has been fancied up with a plethora of features. This includes Adjustments, filters, and crop support video editing, so you can rotate, increase exposure, or even apply filters to your videos. Video editing supports all video formats captured on iPhone, and also allows you to add music to your project.

Photo Sharing like the photos tab section has also taken a giant leap forward. On iOS 13, when you open a photo or another option to share, there are now suggestions based on your actions. Depending on how you go about sharing will depict on what options you have available. The most frequent way you share will be shown in your top recommendations in your sharing section.

Maps has been rebuilt from the ground up and offers a major improvement over the previous version. Maps has more realistic details for roads, beaches, parks, buildings, and now you can share your ETA with family and friends. Maps will also keep commuters that use public transit systems updated with the location of the bus or train on your route. For the people that travel by plane maps will give you up to date information on flight terminals, gate locations, and live departure times. Updates include point-of-interest filtering, camera zoom and pan limits, and support for Dark Mode as well.

Console game controllers is also supported with ios 13. You can use your xbox one or playstation 4 bluetooth controller to take your mobile gaming needs to the next level. This will give you more accuracy and limit missed button presses because your fingers wondering due to not having physical inputs on your devices screen.

Quickpath Keyboard is basically swype on android, but renamed. Quick path Keyboard works like other third-party swipe keyboards that allows you to swipe through the letters of a word thus enabling faster one-handed typing.

If you’ve never used a swipe-based keyboard I suggest giving this a try.

Silence unknown callers should greatly help for those of us that get annoyed by unknown or spam callers. In the Phone section of iOS 13’s settings you’ll find a toggle called “Silence Unknown Callers.” and with a press of a button phone calls you get from callers that aren’t stored in your Contacts will go straight to your voicemail.

Performance Enhancements comes with optimizations that could have a huge impact on your iPhone’s performance. downloads are 50 percent smaller, Face ID is 30 percent faster, updates are 60 percent smaller, and apps launch twice as fast as they do on iOS 12. Like Android devices have had for years now iOS 13 now also includes a feature called Optimized Battery Charging. Located in the battery section this feature learns from your daily charging routine and will prevent your battery from sitting at maximum capacity and could extend the overall life of your iPhone’s battery.

HomePod is playing catch up with other smart speaker’s, with ios13 HomePod will be able to recognise your voice and only reveal private information to you. there will be multi-user support, so that more than one person’s Apple ID can be tied to a HomePod. A feature known as Handoff can be used to transfer what you are listening to on your iPhone to the HomePod which makes it easier for people coming home after a long commute.

Reminders has been long overdue and has been given it’s biggest update since ios7 rolled out. Reminders has been completely  redesigned with new sorting options, and a Siri-powered smart toolbar for entering reminders that make it easier to attach photos, dates, and locations to them. The changes are important for one simple reason and that’s because It works with Siri better than any third-party app. For many years it has lacked many basic options compared to androids and this is a small step in the right direction for apple.

After reading all of this i’m sure you’re asking if you should go out and download this major update. ios has added many new features and  Greatly expanded file management features, Dark mode looks and works great, Maps is quietly and slowly becoming something people might actually want to use and Apple is taking accessibility more seriously than ever. With so many new features, a number of bugs seem to have slipped through with this update. I would recommend waiting a few more days until the 13.1 update is released. Despite the bugs this looks like a great upgrade so hopefully 13.1 will have majority of those bugs ironed out.
